More Java integrated development tools are on the way or already shipping. Here are a few:
- Corporate developers with a commitment to Microsoft's Developer Studio will see Microsoft Jakarta later this year. Jakarta reportedly will be based on Visual C++ and will run on Win95 and NT. See
http://www.microsoft.com/devnews/jakarta.htm
- Natural Intelligence in Cambridge
, Mass., a company known for its 4th Dimension editing tools and Macintosh desktop organizers, has released version DR2 of Roaster, which breaks from the C++ development system paradigm. Running only on Macintosh, the toolkit contains a class browser, an HTML editor, database connectivity, and made-from-scratch Java compiler and applet runner that do not use Sun's Java toolkit. Look for more information at

- Sun Microsystems, the inventor of Java, is testing Java WorkShop, a Web-centric approach to Java development. The integrated development environment runs in any Java-compliant Web browser on Solaris or Windows 95/NT. Visit

for a live demo.
- Developers who like the feel of Borland Delphi may want to wait for Latte, Borland International's full-fledged Java development environment which is said to be b
ased on Delphi's concepts and goals for programming. Users of Borland C++ 5.0 can also take advantage of extensions for editing and compiling Java code as well as Borland's just-in-time compiler and debugger for Java applets and applications.
- RogueWave of Corvallis, Ore., maker of the zApp Factory interface design tool for Windows, is shipping version 1.0.1 of JFactory, an interface design editor for Sun's Java Development Kit 1.0. JFactory runs on Windows 95/NT, Solaris, OS/2, and HP-UX. See it at
