icrosoft last week announced JScript 3.0, a scripting language for adding animation and interactivit
y to Web pages. With this version, JScript is fully compliant with the new Web-based scripting standard, ECMA-262.
To resolve the incompatibility between Microsoft's JScript and Netscape Communications' JavaScript, the two companies, along with Borland International Inc., turned their languages over to the European Computer Manufacturer's Association last November to create the single specification. The final result, ECMA-262, was approved two weeks ago. Microsoft will beat Netscape in supporting the new standard scripting language in its Web browser.
Microsoft will include JScript 3.0 in the upcoming release of Internet Explorer 4.0. The company says it will also include the scripting language in its Internet Information Server 4.0 and Script Debugger.
