NCR To Offer Three Data Mart Options

By John Foley

N CR Corp. this week will announce a program to help companies build data marts that connect to existing da ta warehouses based on NCR's Teradata database-management system.

NCR will provide three options for so-called dependent data marts that extract data from an enterprise data warehouse: creating a logical mart within an existing Teradata system; installing a new Teradata mart that runs on a WorldMark 4300 Unix server from NCR; or deploying a Windows NT-based WorldMark 4300 and Microsoft's SQL Server database.

The first option is the cheapest, priced at $37,000 to $82,000. The second option, providing higher performance, sells for $250,000 to $300,000. The third alternative, priced at $150,000 to $200,000, is aimed at companies that want the performance of Teradata for an enterprise data warehouse.
