The deal includes an object-oriented metadata facility. In addition, 23 product development and marketing staffers from Engage will join Red Brick.
Morgan Stanley raised its 1998 earnings estimate for Red Brick in the wake of the announcement.
Engage developed the software for use with its Web marketing and sales software. It retains the right to sell the two products as part of its ap-

ata warehouse specialist Red Brick Systems Inc. announced last week that it will spend $12 million to acquire software products from Engage Technologies Inc. for building and analyzing data warehouses.

Red Brick president and CEO Chris Erickson says the acquisition will give Red Brick an integrated set of products for building scalable data warehouses on top of its relational database-management system, Red Brick Warehouse. Erickson says there's a need for a complete set of data warehouse products from one vendor. Red Brick plans to deliver the products in the first half of next year, and offer vertical-market applications based on the package in the second half.
