Top Sites For IT Job Hunters

By Norbert Turek

B y some counts, there are more than 11,000 job-listing Web sites. More sites are devoted exclusively to IT jobs, and many of the big general job- posting sites are developing special areas for technology jobs. Here are some of the top sites for IT job hunters.

Career Central For Developers: This site lets application developers, systems analysts, software programmers, and managers in these areas enter details about their skills and salary requirements; candidates are matched with companies looking to recruit employees.

CareerMosaic: Created by a New York ad agency, this site now lists more than 70,000 jobs culled from Usenet sites. You can post a resumé for free, and potential employers can view it for free.

CareerPath.com: This site, developed by a consortium of more than 50 national newspapers, lists more than 230,000 jobs, many of them IT-related. You can post a secure resumé on the site.

DICE: The Data Processing Independent Consultant's Exchange lists more than 58,000 permanent, contract, and consulting jobs nationwide for programmers, software engineers, systems administrators, Web developers, hardware engineers, and other technical people.

HeadHunter.Net: About 70% of the 200,000-plus jobs listed on this site are IT-related, and none are pulled from Usenet sites.

HotJobs: Started as an IT-only job site by a former headhunter, this site has a secure resumé area and restricts job-posting membership to corporations only-no headhunters-so you won't be getting the volume of calls you would get if you posted your resumé on a public site.

IT/Y2K: This offshoot of America's Job Bank lists thousands of jobs related to the year 2000 date-field problem and other IT skills.
