ortel Networks this week will expand its WAN management capabilities to include LAN equipment management, giving network managers more control over the enterprise.Nortel is incorporating network-management technology it picked up when it acquired Bay Networks last year into Open Management System for Passport, Nortel's WAN management system. Version 3.1 of the fault detection and resolution app will integrate with Optivity 9.0, the most recent version of Bay's suite for managing Bay internetworking gear. The integrated product will resolve performance problems more precisely by isolating whether the cause is LAN or WAN based.
Nortel is also rolling out an application to allow enterprise accounting of WAN use. Optivity Service Accounting 1.0 collects traffic from Bay and Nortel devices, as well as from other vendors' equipment, so companies can assign expenses to departments. Nortel is also integrating its Integrated Network Management carrier network management system with Bay's Optivity to help service providers who want to manage customers' networks to collect information from their internal networks.
Pricing for Open Management System for Passport 3.1 starts at $12,000. Optivity Service Accounting 1.0 is priced from $30,000. Both are slated to ship in March.
