Salary Survey Methodology

The 1999 National IT Salary Survey may be the largest study of IT compensation ever conducted. It was extensively expanded since last year and now includes job functions, as well as more than three times as many job titles.

This year's survey was designed by InformationWeek Research in consultation with Hewitt Associates LLC, a global management consulting firm with an extensive practice in compensation consulting.

We recruited respondents through InformationWeek magazine, InformationWeek Online, the InformationWeek Daily E-mail newsletter, postings on several Web sites, and through E-mail solicitations of IT professionals who subscribe to InformationWeek and several other CMP Media publications. The survey was posted on InformationWeek's Web site in February. So far, more than 21,000 IT professionals have participated. The compensation survey is still posted on the Web, and you're invited to fill it out at www.informationweek.com/salary. As we receive more responses, we'll update the results in the pages of InformationWeek.

By the end of this month, you'll also be able to visit our Web site to compare your compensation with that of your peers in different industries and different parts of the country. Visit the IT Salary Advisor at www.informationweek.com/itsalaryadvisor.
