Security Survey Methodology

By Rusty Weston

Illustration by Teofilo OlivieriThe 1999 InformationWeek Global Information Security Survey was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP with InformationWeek editors in the United States and abroad. The survey was completed by 2,700 security professionals in 49 countries, using mail and the Web. The U.S. portion of the study--slightly more than half the respondents--was fielded entirely on the Web using a site protected by Secure Sockets Layer encryption.

Kadence LLC of London fielded the international portion of the survey and tabulated the data under PricewaterhouseCoopers' supervision. The U.S. names were supplied primarily by InformationWeek and partly by Data Communications, also published by CMP Media Inc., from its readership database.

The study was fielded in compliance with European and American data privacy laws.
