  • Plumtree Software Inc. last week began offering an upgrade to its business portal software that offers direct access to enterprise applications.

Companies can create customized portals using Corporate Portal 3.0, which can link to more than 60 applications, Plumtree officials say. Applications supported include Lotus Notes and Domino, Microsoft Exchange, customer-relationship management software, and mainframe applications.

With the new capabilities, Plumtree's software appears to be more advanced than corporate portal offerings, says Tom Koulopoulos, president of consulting firm the Delphi Group. Plumtree expects Corporate Portal 3.0 to help companies meet the goal of a business portal, which is to give desktop users a single point of access to company-related information on an IP network.

VHA Inc., a cooperative of health-care facilities in Irving, Texas, will use version 3.0 to build a portal that gives nearly 2,000 employees access to Lotus Notes and Domino, Novell file systems, IBM DB2 reports, and the Web. "We wanted users to be able to access and download company information, modify reports, and gather information from the outside world,'' says CIO Mike Cummins. VHA hopes to expand its portal to about 40,000 patients and business partners.

Plumtree Corporate Portal 3.0 starts at $100,000 for up to 100 users. It can support as many as 100,000 users.
