  • Cognizant Technology Solutions, a provider of offshore systems-management and application development services from its India data centers, this week will unveil a suite of project-management tools that will be offered as part of its services contracts.

The suite comprises Metrics Cockpit, which generates project progress reports and benchmark analysis; Online Watch Log, a tool that alerts offshore teams about job failures; and Change Request Manager, a logging system that catalogs activities by project team members.

The tools are designed to automate project management outside the scope of human error, says Francisco D'Souza, Cognizant's VP of business operations.

Electronic-commerce and Internet functions are driving more of the changes that clients need to make to their systems, D'Souza says. "Legacy apps weren't designed to handle the high transaction volumes associated with the Web or to operate 24 by 7, so change requests are common and managing those changes is imperative," he says.

CCC Information Services, a Chicago software developer for the auto claims industry, uses Online Watch Log in conjunction with Cognizant's offshore data-center services to gauge changes in its systems. "Cognizant's staff can monitor our systems," says Roland Farber, CCC's senior project manager, "and my people don't have to be constantly on call."
