  • CorVu Corp. last week unveiled CorBusiness and CorManage, the next generation of the company's business-intelligence and performance-management applications. CorBusiness is designed for mainstream analysis and reporting applications, while CorManage is intended for upper management.

CorBusiness provides decision-support capabilities, including end-user query and reporting, online analytical processing, and data warehouse access. The new QuickReports feature provides enhanced drill-down capabilities, and users will be able to execute live queries via the Web.

CorManage has the same features as CorBusiness, but adds balanced scorecard, strategic planning, forecasting, and "what-if" analytical tools. The new release will provide a cascading scorecard feature: Balanced scorecard performance metrics from individual departments or lines of business can be rolled into executive-level scorecards for measuring business performance at the enterprise level.

Transitions Optical Inc., a manufacturer of photochromatic eyeglass lenses in Pinellas Park, Fla., is using CorVu's current software for reporting and performance-measurement applications, such as inventory monitoring.

"We're able to get reports out of the database quickly," says Tony Vallin, Transitions Optical's manager of integrated manufacturing systems. "Without CorVu, it would take a programmer lots of time and effort to develop these reports."

Vallin plans to upgrade to CorManage soon. He expects his company to use the product's forecasting and trend-analysis capabilities in a planned sales and marketing data warehouse.

CorBusiness and CorManage are scheduled to be available in December. CorBusiness will be priced at $1,500 per user; CorManage will be priced at $4,000 per user.
