The Many Facets Of mySAP.com
By Alorie Gilbert

W hat exactly is mySAP.com? That question has confused some of SAP's partners and customers since the company introduced the concept last May. The answer: MySAP.com comprises many software components and services from SAP and its partners, all aimed at enabling companies to do business via the Web. They include:

  • Software applications: SAP's core R/3 enterprise resource planning applications now carry the mySAP.com logo, as does its business intelligence, supply-chain management, customer-relationship management, and business-to-business procurement applications. MySAP.com Workplace, a portal interface to SAP applications, and enterprise application integration products from SAP partners use the label, too.

  • Online marketplaces: MySAP.com Market- place is a business-to-business trading exchange for general business supplies, services, and information. SAP will roll out, under the mySAP.com banner, marketplaces for specific industries, such as petroleum and pharmaceuticals, jointly built, owned, and operated with industry partners, and sell a packaged software product for companies that want to run their own online marketplaces.

  • Hosted applications: SAP applications available through seven application service providers are also dubbed mySAP.com.

SAP is also pricing software sold under the mySAP.com label differently. It's charging by the number of users and their role. SAP has identified 180 roles that may use multiple apps. Customers can also license each application by seats.
