MC Software Inc. expanded the range of its systems-management offerings last week when it introduced new products and programs designed to manage E-businesses.BMC unveiled two products to help companies manage databases to better handle system failures, and it launched management software for IBM's WebSphere Web application server. It also debuted system-management products for Windows 2000.
Analysts say BMC's experience helping companies manage a variety of systems lends depth to its E-business- management push. "BMC understands the need to provide high levels of reliability," says Steve Foote, president and CEO of consulting firm Enswers.com.
BMC's new database-management tools include Resolve High Speed Transaction Recovery, which lets users recover and re-create data. Available now, the software starts at $80,000. Resolve Enterprise Snapshot for SQL-BackTrack lets users take a snapshot of a database that can be used for backups. The software will be available in March; pricing hasn't been set.
"To have products that ensure back-end databases are restored with little disruption is going to help companies be more successful," says Caryn Gillooly, an analyst with the Hurwitz Group.
BMC's Patrol for WebSphere lets companies continuously monitor processes running on the Web server to troubleshoot problems. Available now, Patrol for WebSphere starts at $3,875.
BMC has also added support for Windows 2000 to its Patrol management suite, including tools for Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Terminal Services, Microsoft BackOffice Server, Microsoft Systems Management Server, SQL Server, and Microsoft SNA Server.
