Modular UPS
Best Power's Axxium Pro is an uninterruptible power system that can grow with an expanding network but is priced to compete against basic, nonscalable units. The double-conversion modular unit can be purchased as a basic 3kVA unit. By adding more 3kVA power modules and more batteries in open slots, the unit can be expanded up to 18kVA. Four enclosure sizes (three-slot, six-slot, nine-slot, and 12-slot) give network managers several options for anticipated growth. Each slot can hold either a 3kVA module or two batteries, or it can be left open. The Axxium Pro also includes advanced communication capabilities, N+X redundancy for power and logic, and an extremely small footprint.

Price: The 3kVA unit begins at $2,656. Additional power modules are $1,609 each. Additional batteries are $169 each.

Electronic Pen, Paper
Informal Software has unveiled Enotate, software that enables handheld devices to become the electronic equivalent of pen and paper. Enotate software lets a stylus device such as 3Com's Palm Pilot become a real-time, direct extension of the PC, giving users the ability to annotate text, sketch ideas, and draw directly onto their PC applications using natural handwriting. This makes the personal digital assistant a fourth peripheral for the PC, working alongside the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The software supports use with the Palm Pilot; support for other handheld platforms, including Windows CE devices and next-generation smart phones, is planned. Price: $49.99.
