More Than An ISDN Router
Pivotal Networking's StarGazer 1800 is a complete ISDN access unit that provides not only Internet access, dial-in remote access, and wide area inter-LAN connectivity via IP/IPX routing or bridging, but also optional voice-over-IP functionality. It includes one ISDN port, four 10BaseT Ethernet ports, and an RS-232 serial port. The unit also supports up to three analog ports that can be used for connecting conventional analog devices, such as telephones or fax machines. Users can dial an extension directly from the outside, transfer incoming voice calls between ports, or perform intercom calls. With the optional G.723.1-compliant voice compression hardware board, the StarGazer 1800 can also support voice calls across the Internet. Price: Starts at $495.

ActiveX Host Access
NetManage's ViewNow Browser Edition for ActiveX is a server-based product for managed access to host systems from PCs equipped with Web browsers that support Microsoft's ActiveX technology. It delivers easy-to-use host connectivity to PC clients from a Web server over standard Internet connections. Once the software is downloaded through the browser, authorized users can access available Unix, IBM AS/400, and IBM mainframe host systems. It integrates with directory-based management tools to offer simple yet powerful management and system customization facilities. Price: $165 per user.

Project On Windows CE
Casio Soft Project 2.0 lets users import and export Microsoft Project-compatible project schedules directly on handheld or palm-size PCs whenever they are working in the field. With Project 2.0, users can take important project-management tools with them wherever they go. They also get full control of interactive Gantt charts (with the same drag-and-drop control offered in Microsoft Project 2000), resource and budget allocations, milestones, priorities, and task linkages. In addition, users get improved data exchange, European date and currency formats, and 10 levels of project hierarchy. Casio Soft Project 2.0 works on all Windows CE-based computers with color or grayscale displays. Price: $79.95.

Handheld Authentication
CryptoCard is introducing two authentication tokens--the KF-1 Key Fob token and the PT-1 token for Palm handheld devices--with the next version of the company's token administration platform. CryptoAdmin 4.1 features a new user interface and capabilities that allow easier administration for network security managers. It also includes CryptoAgents, which automate the logon process in dial-up, ISDN, and Telnet environments. The KF-1 is a durable, steel-cased unit that offers PIN entry for activation. The PT-1 provides one-time password authentication and doesn't require the Palm user to carry an additional device. Its nested-groups feature makes it easy for departments, divisions, or business units to be accommodated quickly as companies change their security policies. Price: $5,000 for CryptoAdmin 4.1 Standard Edition, which includes the easyRadius authentication server. The KF-1 is $89, and the PT-1 is $69.

Lightweight Web Server
Gefion Software's LiteWebServer 2.2 is a Web server with support for Sun Microsystems' Servlet 2.2 and JavaServer Pages 1.1. The server's small size (420 Kbytes) makes it ideal for embedded systems and for running Web applications distributed on CDs. LiteWebServer is free for both commercial and noncommercial use on a customer's own servers. Customers who purchase a one-year support license get E-mail support, access to the product's source code, access to a database with information about all known problems and any workarounds, and the right to bundle the product as part of another product. Price: $149 per copy for fewer than 11 copies; $1,600 for unlimited copies.

Up A Secure RedCreek
RedCreek Communications' Ravlin 7150 provides full IP Security Standard virtual private network capability up to 100 Mbps. With the addition of Fast Ethernet connectivity, the 7150 gives network administrators secure traffic flow that facilitates faster encryption and decryption of private business communication. It supports Triple DES encryption at 45 Mbps. Built on dedicated hardware, it operates transparently to the user and is fully compatible with all Ravlin products with regard to IPSec, management, and client interface. The Ravlin 7150 firmware contains all components of the IETF and IPSec standards for enhanced network security, including encryption, authentication, key management, and anti-replay services. It also provides data privacy, using industry-standard 56-bit DES and 168-bit Triple DES encryption. Price: $8,500.

Web-Site Tester
RSW Software's e-Test 4.0 is an easy-to-use testing suite that's powerful enough to meet the requirements of large-scale Web applications. Enhancements include the ability to emulate thousands of virtual users on low-cost Windows NT workstations, extend Visual Scripts using standard programming languages, and track server-side statistics to help pinpoint performance bottlenecks once they're detected. It can generate significantly more load per agent machine by increasing page throughput by up to five times that of previous versions, and is extensible with standard programming languages to handle an array of testing. Price: Starts at $4,995.

Manager For Mixed Domains
Sunbelt Software Distribution has added Dorian Software Creations' UltraAdmin to its best-of-breed Windows NT utilities. It's a centralized domain administrative tool that's interoperable for management of Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 computer users and groups. It's built with the Microsoft Active Directory Service Interface. The use of the interface with its software development kit will let administrators manage and automate server applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server and Internet Information Server. It can autodetect operating-system versions in mixed-mode domains, offering a management tool that maintains legacy support for NT 4.0, while offering the richer administrative functionality that's included in 2000. Price: $175.

Faster Printers
Panasonic Document Imaging's FP-D450 and FP-D600 are digital copiers/printers that copy at speeds of 45 and 60 pages per minute, respectively. Both models use Panasonic's patented Quantum technology, which instantly performs more than 5,000 checks and analyses. Both offer 256-level gray- scale and 600-by-600-dpi resolution in copier and printer functions. They also offer a "scan once, print many" feature that scans the original only once during printing, saving wear and tear on the machine. Price: The D450 is $10,400; the D600 is $17,170.

Keeping Track Of Time
Sage U.S. Holdings' TimeSheet Professional 7.0 offers new time-tracking features, such as more-powerful interaction with project-management software. It also delivers Web functions for administrators, expanded data fields, and tracking capabilities. Among the new features are customized data fields; advanced task sorting, using Work Breakdown Structure codes; detailed history of entry changes; a new summary report wizard; and easier management of logon settings. New security features can prevent users from changing their settings. Price: $199.95 for a single user; $799.95 for an eight-user standard network.
