Esprit Finds A Crystal Ball For Its Supply Chain
Thomas York

By leaving systems management to an outsourced IT staff, Esprit de Corp. is able to move faster on deployment of new applications and systems that can help improve its supply chain.

Last month, the San Francisco clothing retailer selected Capstan Systems Inc.'s Web-based supply chain-software to manage its global supply-chain extranet, including logistics and import management.

"In the apparel industry, visibility, control, and execution of the supply chain is crucial to success," says Dan Allison, director of global logistics for Esprit. "Esprit is deploying Capstan's Web-based solutions to help us align our internal merchandising and operations departments, together with our external supply-chain participants, at last delivering 'crystal ball' visibility across the supply chain."

In April, Esprit will begin to use the vendor's logistics-management module to communicate shipment information via the Internet to 23 suppliers, third-party logistics providers, brokers, and customers.

Esprit says it will later roll out an import-management module to streamline import compliance and documentation generation, which is expected to save the company considerable time and money.
