Where To Find Software Developers' Kits
By Alan Radding

There aren't third-party tools for wireless development, such as Wireless Markup Language-integrated development environments or visual programming tools. WML itself can be written using a simple text editor. The most valuable tool is a screen simulator to display your WML code as it will look on a cell phone screen.

Developers should start with a software developers' kit from one of the device vendors. You will likely have to register before you can download the kit. Here's where to get them:

* Ericsson

* Nokia

* Palm

* Phone.com

* Symbian

Developers of wireless applications should check out the WAP Forum, a consortium of organizations, mainly device vendors and carriers, that promote Wireless Application Protocols. Its Web site can be found at www.wapforum.org/index.htm.
