t FixedAssetInfo.com, a Web site developed by accounting software company Best Software Inc., a depreciation calculator serves as a way to attract the attention of accountants looking for fast answers. The calculator lets visitors quickly determine depreciation values for several categories of assets based on their cost and a variety of depreciation formulas.
Chris Donie, Best Software's director of product marketing for fixed asset solutions, says the calculator--which attracted tens of thousands of hits in its first month--serves several purposes. First, it helps position the dot-com as a repository of accounting expertise. Obviously, that's important for a company that sells such expertise in the form of documents, training, and software. Second, it almost guarantees that FixedAssetInfo.com will get bookmarked by the accounting professionals who try the site. That translates into repeat visits by fully qualified buyers. "The Web is about content and community," says Donie. "Our calculator delivers both."
