his year marks the fourth edition of InformationWeek Research's annual Outlook Study. The purpose is to supply an early indication of what the coming year holds from an IT executive's perspective.InformationWeek Research conducted 300 telephone interviews in November 2000 with IT executives responsible for their companies' IT budgets and planning. Respondents were surveyed on their 2001 IT and business priorities, E-business expectations, IT spending plans, and anticipated deployment hurdles. Participants were drawn from a random stratified sample of InformationWeek's 440,000 subscribers.
For analytical purposes, respondents were selected from a cross-section of industries, the three largest being financial services and banking, business services, and manufacturing. The study sample was also segmented according to company size, including small businesses with annual revenue under $100 million, midsize companies with revenue between $100 million and $1 billion, and large companies with annual revenue of more than $1 billion.
Where possible, study responses were tracked against those compiled from the three previous InformationWeek Research Outlook Studies conducted in 2000, 1999, and 1998 to illustrate changing IT and business practices.
