DS3 DataVaulting
DS3 DataVaulting focuses on larger midsize companies. Similar to Axcient, DS3 DataVaulting places an appliance in your facility that acts as an initial backup target to receive backup jobs. There are no agents to deploy -- all backups are agentless -- which makes implementation relatively easy. Once the initial backup is sent to the service only delta changes are replicated to DS3's DataVault, making for very efficient use of the Internet connection. Platform coverage includes most major operating systems as well as most popular e-mail and database applications. If you have an unusual operating system or database, DS3 is probably your best bet for coverage.
DS3 places extra emphasis on quality; its
data centers are professional grade and use Tier 1 storage systems to store clients' backups. This investment gives the service-level agreements a sense of realism.
The local DS3 appliance can be sized in such a way that it will store your initial full backup as well as daily changes. This allows for rapid local recoveries on the most common recovery type -- the latest copy of data. Recoveries of older data can be accessed seamlessly across the Internet. In the case of a total site disaster, a new appliance can be created with your latest backup information on it. The new appliance can be sent to wherever you intend on rebuilding your servers. All of these recoveries can be administered by DS3 personnel or performed through a simple Web-based GUI.
