Architecting Low Latency Cloud Networks
[ Source: Arista Networks ]
June 2009-
As data centers transition to next generation virtualized & elastic cloud architectures, high performance and resilient cloud networking has become a requirement for delivering always-on, always-available applications.
Over the last decade response time requirements have been rigorously tightened, toward fractions of a second, and both network and compute latencies need to be reduced in parallel. An architectural approach is needed so that response times are consistently and measurably enhanced across a wide set of ....
Distributed Clustering in Ad-Hoc Sensor Networks: A Hybrid, Energy-Efficient Approach
[ Source: Purdue University ]
January 2008-
This paper presents an energy-efficient distributed clustering approach for ad-hoc sensor networks. The approach is hybrid: cluster heads are randomly selected based on their residual energy, and nodes join clusters such that communication cost is minimized. Based on this approach, the paper introduces the HEED protocol, which terminates in a constant number of iterations, independent of the network diameter. HEED operates in quasi-stationary networks where nodes are location-unaware and have equal significance.
Private Cloud ROI Case Study with Intel and Univa

How can Private Cloud technology benefit you? Find out in this new case study and ROI analysis which describes the benefits Corus Automotive, a major European steelmaker, has received due to an Intel and Univa infrastructure transformation.
Corus is using Intel Nehalem processors and Univa UD software used to create a private cloud to run its technical computing applications and streamline its data management and storage processes. These applications allow an elite team of ....
Optimal Cluster Association in Two-Tiered Wireless Sensor Networks
[ Source: Washington State University ]
January 2008-
This paper studies the two-tiered Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) architecture and proposes the optimal cluster association algorithm for it to maximize the overall network lifetime. A two-tiered WSN is formed by number of small Sensor Nodes (SNs), powerful Application Nodes (ANs), and Base-Stations (BSs, or gateways). SNs capture, encode, and transmit relevant information to ANs, which then send the combined information to BSs. Presuming the locations of the SNs, ANs, and BSs are fixed, the ....
Grid Computing's Role in Data Warehousing Grows
[ Source: CTS ]
October 2008-
The main characteristic of any data warehouse is its ability to hold huge volumes of data while still offering good query performance. It is designed to facilitate the analysis of the organization’s data and generate reports based on the analysis.
To provide better performance to analytical queries of business users, companies keep on adding hardware resources, thereby making the data warehouse system very expensive. Sometimes, the power of these added resources is underutilized. In ....
The Art of Effortless Administration: Oracle Database 10g Management Best Practices
[ Source: Oracle ]
January 2008-
DBAs (Database Administrators) today are charged with writing homegrown applications, administering large server farms, and managing projects of increasing complexity. Applications in these environments are distributed across multiple tiers, are complex and require a lot of specialized knowledge to administer. Oracle Database10g automates many of the database administration tasks and supports new automated tuning techniques, fueled by demand for accurate and timely diagnosis. This paper outlines a series of best practices that allows DBAs to ....
Using Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing: Best Practices
[ Source: Oracle ]
January 2008-
Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing (AQ) is the high-performance integrated message queuing feature of the Oracle Database. This paper from Oracle assists customers in maximizing the AQ performance and efficiency in their hardware and software environments. Advanced Queuing is more than just queue tables under the covers. There are many different data structures that facilitate the speedy operation of the queue tables. Queue Monitor (QMN) processes are responsible for a variety of queue maintenance tasks, especially ....
