Effectiveness of Loss Labeling in Improving TCP Performance in Wired/Wireless Networks
[ Source: Boston University ]
January 2008-
The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) has been the dominant transport mechanism for reliable data transfer over the Internet. In this paper the researchers study the fundamental gains and limits of explicit loss labeling techniques employed to empower TCP in hybrid wired/wireless networks. The filter is re-instantiated to measure RTT and augment it with history information so as to distinguish between congestion and wireless losses, specifically to empower TCP NewReno in wired/wireless networks.

TCP Performance for Future IP-Based Wireless Networks
[ Source: Rochester Institute of Technology ]
January 2008-
The Internet and wireless networks are two of the most important technical developments that have had a direct affect on the lives of people. Many extensive studies have been performed that have attempted to improve the performance of TCP for wireless networks. The common assumptions made by TCP for wired networks definitely do not hold for wireless networks. TCP with its semantics such as end-to-end flow control, a congestion control mechanism and error recovery provide ....
