Effectiveness of Loss Labeling in Improving TCP Performance in Wired/Wireless Networks [ Source: Boston University ]
January 2008- The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) has been the dominant transport mechanism for reliable data transfer over the Internet. In this paper the researchers study the fundamental gains and limits of explicit loss labeling techniques employed to empower TCP in hybrid wired/wireless networks. The filter is re-instantiated to measure RTT and augment it with history information so as to distinguish between congestion and wireless losses, specifically to empower TCP NewReno in wired/wireless networks.

Transform Enterprise Networking With the Nortel Networks ACE - Architecture for the Converged Enterprise [ Source: Nortel Networks ]
January 2008- ACE is open, providing business agility to incorporate new technologies in a non-disruptive manner, and to work in a multi-vendor environment. It provides scalability by design for user and traffic growth at the network and application levels. Nortel Networks understands the challenges faced by enterprises in developing stronger customer relationships, and the critical role of IT and the Internet in serving business objectives. Nortel Networks Architecture for the Converged Enterprise (ACE) that brings unifying communications ....

TCP Performance for Future IP-Based Wireless Networks [ Source: Rochester Institute of Technology ]
January 2008- The Internet and wireless networks are two of the most important technical developments that have had a direct affect on the lives of people. Many extensive studies have been performed that have attempted to improve the performance of TCP for wireless networks. The common assumptions made by TCP for wired networks definitely do not hold for wireless networks. TCP with its semantics such as end-to-end flow control, a congestion control mechanism and error recovery provide ....

TEAMQUEST and ITIL: Part 3 - Implementing Capacity Management [ Source: TeamQuest ]
January 2008- Once a decision has been made to improve service by adopting ITIL frameworks and best practices, a plan must be developed to implement the changes to the organizations. The risk of a full implementation is that some processes may not operate immediately as expected and therefore impact business processes. Other ITIL proponents feel that IT and business leaders should choose a staged approach when implementing the ITIL framework and best practices because the impact of ....

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 [ Source: Microsoft ]
January 2008- Microsoft’s vision for ITSM, as the practice is commonly called, is the Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI). DSI is Microsoft’s approach to building self-managing dynamic systems. The DSI roadmap is a collection of solutions that are more manageable, more agile, and more cost effective than competitors’. A key component to enabling Microsoft’s DSI is the Microsoft Systems Center suite of tools for monitoring and managing the IT environment. System Center Operations Manager 2007 is one of ....

Using Steady-State TCP Behavior for Proactive Queue Management [ Source: Los Alamos National Laboratory ]
January 2008- This white paper assesses the use of steady-state TCP behavior knowledge for Proactive Queue Management (PQM). It shows how routers use flow parameters and the knowledge of TCP end-host behavior to intelligently mark packets to prevent queue build-up and thus prevent congestion from ever occurring, while at the same time presents high link utilization and low packet loss. Utilizing a queue management algorithm that tracks TCP behavior allows queue sizes to be deterministically stabilized at ....

Designing IT Infrastructure to Meet Your Business Goals [ Source: J.P. Schwartz ]
January 2008- Designing an IT infrastructure plan that meets the current and future business goals is well worth the time and energy required. IT infrastructure is defined as the policies, processes, people, hardware, software, networks, vendors, and customer interfaces required to collect, analyze, and deliver the information and communications that make business successful. This paper goals, include input from all areas impacted by a potential change in IT infrastructure such as management, personnel, marketing, planning, manufacturing, data ....

Lower Network Infrastructure Cost with Traceability [ Source: ShowTrail ]
April 2008- Since many years, in most of all industries, traceability is essential, and very often is mandated by the State. Besides, since Sarbanes&Oxley act, traceability is mandatory for the information systems bound to financial transactions of a company quoted on stock market. In most of our systems, traceability is done with logs which provide the history of all transactions. But for networking, it seems that traceability is unknown. Firstly, what is traceability ....
