TEAMQUEST and ITIL: Part 3 - Implementing Capacity Management
[ Source: TeamQuest ]
January 2008-
Once a decision has been made to improve service by adopting ITIL frameworks and best practices, a plan must be developed to implement the changes to the organizations. The risk of a full implementation is that some processes may not operate immediately as expected and therefore impact business processes. Other ITIL proponents feel that IT and business leaders should choose a staged approach when implementing the ITIL framework and best practices because the impact of ....
Security Information Management in the Payment Card Industry
[ Source: TriGeo Network Security ]
September 2008-
Simply deploying a security solution cannot guarantee meeting every Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirement in full. This whitepaper discusses the challenges of PCI compliance and how security information and event management (SIEM) provides the data visibility, log management, end-point security and active response needed to demonstrate and meet each of the 12 PCI compliance requirements.
The Power of Intelligent Automation - Why Automated Network and Systems Monitoring Is Critical to IT and Business Performance
[ Source: CITTIO ]
April 2008-
Despite the ever increasing complexity in the underlying infrastructure, IT is increasingly being called upon to do more with less. New network, systems, applications and multiple types of edge devices are being added daily. This infrastructure is essential to business operations making outages and slowdowns unacceptable during or after deployment. Also, the explosive growth and dynamic nature of many of the new infrastructure components makes traditional manual intervention inadequate.

Special Report on Modernizing Messaging Infrastructures
[ Source: Sendmail ]
November 2008-
Sendmail's "Special Report on Modernizing Messaging Infrastructures" features a Gartner research note titled "Signs Indicate a Train Wreck Is Coming, Unless You Modernize IT" (Scott. D. Nelson, Valentin T. Sribar, and Andy Kyte, August 27, 2008) and success stories about how Sendmail customers have avoided potential IT messaging infrastructure train wrecks.
In this research note, Gartner outlines the top indicators of a potential IT train wreck in its response to the central question, ....
Effectiveness of Loss Labeling in Improving TCP Performance in Wired/Wireless Networks
[ Source: Boston University ]
January 2008-
The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) has been the dominant transport mechanism for reliable data transfer over the Internet. In this paper the researchers study the fundamental gains and limits of explicit loss labeling techniques employed to empower TCP in hybrid wired/wireless networks. The filter is re-instantiated to measure RTT and augment it with history information so as to distinguish between congestion and wireless losses, specifically to empower TCP NewReno in wired/wireless networks.
Ensuring Web Service Quality for Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA’s)
[ Source: Oracle ]
March 2009-
Web services hold the promise of integrating software applications from heterogeneous networks and exchanging information in a simple, standardized manner.
Current trends show that the vast majority of companies are moving to services-oriented architectures (SOAs) and deploying Web services within and across their IT infrastructure. However, the success of those deployments is determined not only by the integrations and innovations that Web services make possible, but also by how Web services affect the ....
Deploy Changes 80% Faster: Oracle Real Application Testing—Business Agility Through Superior Testing
[ Source: Oracle ]
March 2009-
Companies that cannot adapt to address fluctuating business opportunities and challenges face serious downside risk. The ability to adopt new IT technology successfully can be a major enabler for change, while the inability can be a major anchor that holds a company back, preventing business evolution.
Superficially, it can seem relatively easy to make technology changes, but testing and ....
Make Your Technology Intuitive…And Profitable
[ Source: NexAira ]
April 2009-
This white paper discusses the complexity of some of today’s great technologies. If the product is complex to operate, most consumers can’t make it work. If they can’t make the product work, they return it. If they return it, your company loses money.
Automation As A Component Of IT Risk Management
[ Source: UC4 Software ]
December 2008-
As enterprise software is increasingly used to automate complex business processes, IT is becoming an increasingly important factor for enterprisewide risk management. Unfortunately, as process chains become more and more complex and cross multiple business silos, it is often unclear how various processes link together—until a business function breaks down. If that happens, it is clearly a risk for the company. One method for companies to mitigate risk is to implement an automation solution to ....
Troubleshooting Slow Networks with Wireshark
[ Source: Global Knowledge ]
June 2009-
Wireshark, the world's most popular open-source network analyzer, has become an essential tool to locate and diagnose the cause of network problems in the most efficient and cost-effective method possible. In March 2009, the Wireshark Certification Program was released to validate a candidate's knowledge of Wireshark functionality, TCP/IP troubleshooting, and network forensics/security. In this white paper, we examine how to use Wireshark to troubleshoot some of the top causes of poor network performance.
