Startup Paglo, which offers SaaS-based IT management based on search, now collects Netflow data to help customers monitor bandwidth usage by users, applications and protocols.This week Paglo announced that its IT management service collects Netflow data from Cisco routers. That's in addition to a host of other information, such as the configuration of PCs and servers on the network, software versions and more.
This kind of information is par for the course in network management tools, but Paglo has two differentiators. First, it indexes all the information it discovers, which means everything is searchable. Administrators can use plain English to query the index to get answers to pressing questions, or construct queries using Paglo's query language.
Second, while the crawler lives on premises, all the information it discovers goes up to the cloud. Paglo stores the information in search indexes dedicated to each customer. Customers use a browser to query the index.
In addition to queries, Paglo lets administrators create dashboard-like metrics that provide up-to-the minute status reports on a variety of information.
Paglo has also created a user community to let customers share queries and dashboard templates.
The company targets small and medium-size organizations (5 to 5,000 employees). Co-founder Brian de Haaff says customers tend to come to the company for three major uses: asset discovery and inventory, asset monitoring and network management.
