Java 6 Update 10 Released

Sun released update 10 of Java SE 6 today, after a long beta cycle. This update is deemed significant by Sun, and involves updates to a wide range of areas including:

-Largely improved startup time (Java Quick Starter)

-Tearoffs: The ability to drag applets off a browser and onto the desktop to run as widgets

-Java Kernel: a breakup of the Java runtime into smaller components that result in smaller downloads and decreased startup times

-Faster and easier installation

-Improved graphics look-and-feel (Nimbius cross-platform support)

-Direct3D support on Windows for faster graphics

-A deployment toolkit

-A new Java plug-in with complete browser independence

-Improved interoperability with web 2.0 technology

-Support for multiple JVM versions on one machine

You can get the update and read more about it at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. You can also find more blogs about Java and JavaFX at The Planetarium (Sun's Java-related blog site) at http://blogs.sun.com/theplanetarium.

Happy coding!
