BIOS Could Hide Rootkits

Attackers could use the PC's Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, a collection of power management controls, to code or deploy snippets of a rootkit into the BIOS flash memory, a researcher says.

Microsoft Readies Second Anti-Spyware Beta

Windows Defender Beta 2 will add support for Outlook, a new interface, and automated updates to the spyware definitions and scanning engine. Where Beta 1 has been available only for Windows XP, Beta 2 will run on other Windows versions.

EC Grants Microsoft Extension; DOJ Says Company Tardy

The European Commission gave Microsoft an extension Monday to respond to charges relating to a 2004 antitrust ruling. Meanwhile the U.S. Department of Justice took the company to task for falling behind in providing documentation required under a 2002 antitrust settlement.

FTC Says Cell Phone E-Mail Is Hoax

Security Firm Offers Ad Space In Bug Report
