BI Consolidation Begins

The week after Business Objects SA said it would buy enterprise reporting software vendor Crystal Decisions Inc., Hyperion Solutions Corp. revealed a deal to acquire query-and-reporting applications vendor Brio Software Inc. for $142 million. So begins the long-awaited consolidation of the business-intelligence market, as vendors try to build complete lines of reporting and analysis apps.
