You're absolutely right, we've seem to be more concerned with capturing anything and everything that we forget about why we are collecting it in the first place.  The movement towards getting more intelligent data through Deep Data is really where the innovation and focus should be, as unless we can make meaningful use of the data, there's really no sense in collecting it in the first place.

Are You Getting All This, NSA?
The NSA should really check in with Raghavan for a quick lesson to distinguish between data hoarding and deep data.  Maybe if it did, the federal agency would actually serve a substantive purpose instead of being the contemporary American version of the Gestapo.
