Cloud Solutions & Deployment: Increasing the Momentum

In June, I had the privilege to participate in Open Data Center Alliance Forecast 2012. This was an exciting opportunity for the ODCA to discuss the real issues that are facing cloud computing. We accomplished a lot at Forecast 2012. But the ODCA's work didn't end there. In the couple of months since Forecast 2012, the ODCA has been hard at work on a number of exciting new initiatives. Last week the Alliance announced new usage models that will help conquer the growing cloud challenge, and create opportunities around interoperability - especially with more platforms and services as solutions (PaaS and SaaS) needing to work together across clouds. National Australia Bank (NAB), a member of the Alliance's Steering Committee, also announced a new white paper showcasing their innovative methods for reporting carbon emissions in the cloud - best practices that align with ODCA requirements.

In September I'll have the chance to participate in another exciting ODCA event that will generate momentum for deployment of cloud computing solutions. The Solutions Provider Summit will be an opportunity to meet with ODCA vendor companies developing and delivering cloud computing solutions, and learn about enterprise member's plans to begin deployments either through an RFP process or through proof of concept testing of solutions. It's another great opportunity to come together as an organization and ask the tough questions, look for real solutions and determine how to raise the bar for cloud computing. We'll hear from the new OCDA Chairman, Mario Müller from BMW, as well as a number of other ODCA leaders, about their vision and the ODCA's vision for cloud computing.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Alliance has progressed since Forecast 2012, and am eagerly anticipating what's in store at the Solutions Provider Summit and beyond. I hope to see you there!

The event will take place the day before the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) and be a great lead in to other cloud-related activities taking place that week at IDF.
