9. Don't Rely On Reputation

Edwin Marcial, IntercontinentalExchange CIO: At one point, I selected a software product largely based on reputation because it was considered the best in the industry, and because it was what everyone else was using. We wasted a year of development time until we switched gears. Every vendor and product must be vetted, regardless of its past success and reputation.
