Curiosity Takes the Stage
NASA prepared for the Mars Science Lab mission by mating the cruise stage to the aeroshell, which carries Curiosity. The purpose of the cruise stage is to provide solar power, thrusters for navigation, and heat exchangers to the rover as it travels to Mars.
