Big Pages? No Problem

In an effort to boost application performance, IBM customers using version 5.1 of AIX5L on pSeries Unix servers can download software called Technical Large Page that lets pieces of data as large as 16 Mbytes pass between server and application. The changes amount to incremental tuning, says Gordon Haff, an analyst for research firm Illuminata. "But having the right optimizations," he adds, "can make an enormous difference."
