Works In Progress

Posted by , Nov 23, 2004 03:50 PM

Short weeks don't have to short on news, and this one is a perfect example. We're looking into a number of stories: CA's Breaking Tradition To Break Out Of The Past; IBM Scores Another Huge Outsourcing Contract; and Boeing And Airbus Find Common Ground In RFID

CA's Breaking Tradition To Break Out Of The Past
What do people want CA's new CEO to deliver? (Other than maybe a subpeona-free future for the software maker.) A team of reporters, including Paul Travis, Martin Garvey, and John Foley, are asking CA customers that question. They’re also asking people to assess CA's strengths and weaknesses, threats and opportunities as the company's first-ever outsider takes the helm. Honeywell is going to pay IBM hundreds of millions of dollars over 10 years to design and engineer computer chips, networking gear, and other IT components for Honeywell’s line of defense systems, reports Paul McDougall. He’s looking into how service companies are moving up the chain to offer higher-end, sophisticated business processes.

Elena Malykhina says that archrivals Boeing and Airbus are making progress in their stated goal to collaborate on the use of RFID in their supply chains. If RFID can help these two play nicer, someone needs to send a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.
