NRF Goes RFID
While last year's event drew more than 12,500 people, this year the retail trade association is expecting an even bigger crowd. The main draw in 2005--RFID, a tiny semiconductor chip that companies are encasing in a thin plastic film or paper label, complete with antenna that transmits a signal. The tiny device has fueled new industries from consulting to hardware to software, and is forecast to streamline supply chains and revolutionize the retail industry. Stay tuned. A spokeswoman for the event says about 50% of the attendees opted-in at the time of registration to wear the badge with the embedded chip. The RFID badges are meant to enhance the attendee's experience throughout the conference hall, as well as when they visit the X05 Real Store Pavilion located on the conference center floor. This smart-store X05 prototype features the latest in fixtures, furniture, graphics, sound, lighting, visual merchandising products, flooring, signs, and more. At X05, attendees can experience how RFID technology can make everyday functions more efficient and devices more intelligent. I'll see you at NRF in NYC. « Can Business And Government Speak The Same Language? | Main | More Words You Want Banned: "Ping," "End of the Day," "Functionality" » |
