$10 Billion To Fund IPv4 To IPv6 Transition

Alex Lightman, chief executive officer and president at IPv6 Summit Inc., has a goal. It's to push a new appropriation of $10 billion to fund the federal government's transition from Internet protocol version 4 to the next generation of Internet protocol IPv6.

I asked Lightman where the money would come from and what type of wireless applications could benefit.

Among the many applications, which includes radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, he mentioned an IPv6-connected sensor network. It would connect to every possible point of entry into the United States to detect radiation, and more complicated sensor network for biological and chemical weapons.
