Kevin Smith, Why Do You $%&#@% Hate InformationWeek?

Posted by Mitch Wagner, Jun 14, 2006 12:14 PM

Oh, Kevin Smith, why do you repay my years of devoted fannishness by threatening to vandalize InformationWeek?

Or, to rephrase the question in your language: Why the $#^&@% do you $%#&@%-ing repay me for seeing and recommending all your movies -- even Jersey Girl! Even Mallrats! -- by $#&^@ defacing my Web site, you $%@&*$ [offensive homophobic epithet deleted]?

Smith, director of Jersey Girl and Clerks is trying to build buzz for his upcoming sequel Clerks 2 by encouraging a campaign of net vandalism. On his blog, Smith encourages fans to post a banner ad for Clerks 2 on "as many websites, messageboards, MySpace pages, and blogs as possible." The contest runs for the 24 hours of the day the movie opens, July 21.

My first thought when reading that proposal was: "My, what an excellent concept for 'guerilla marketing.'" I expressed the thought in my colorful, southern-California manner, by saying: "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!"

But then I realized: I'm one of the editors of InformationWeek.com, and that means I'm going to be spending July 21--two days before my birthday, dude!--cleaning your troglodyte fans' crappy banners off the comment areas of this Web site.

So thanks a lot, Kevin. Thanks a &#@*&%$& lot, you [offensive anti-women epithet deleted].
