The interface is the brainchild of researcher Jef Han. "In this Googly age, it only takes a random genius or two to conceive of a technology so powerful that it can plow under the landscape and remake it in its own image. People are already betting that Jeff Han is one of them," writes Fast Company. (As far as I can see, you can't access the Fast Company article directly unless you're a subscriber, but you can access it if you do it through a link on the page where the video is hosted, above.)
