Verizon Wireless to Launch Mobile TV Service March 1
Places you won't be able to watch mobile TV on March 1 include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego and Las Vegas. (San Diego is rather shocking, given that it is Qualcomm and MediaFLO's home town). Not much more information is available, but the March 1 launch date beats Verizon's original target (March 31) by a full month. The service, which will be available for a yet-to-be-announced monthly fee, will offer content from providers such as CBS, Comedy Central, Fox, MTV, NBC News, NBC Entertainment and Nickelodeon. Only two handsets will be compatible with the service initially, the Samsung SCH-U620 and the LG VX9400. Neither has been seen on the Verizon Wireless Web site yet. The technology is enabled with Qualcomm's MediaFLO mobile TV network. AT&T recently announced that it will provide mobile TV services with MediaFLO, as well. T-Mobile and Alltel wireless are trialling the technology, and Sprint has decided to pass for now. « Cingular and Motorola Offer Gold RAZR | Main | Wireless Apps Galore At New York Mobile Monday » |
