Microsoft To Pop The Top On PhizzPop

Posted by Michael Singer, Apr 18, 2007 06:35 PM

Microsoft may not have been at the forefront of creating social networks, but the Windows company is ready to lift the lid on a conversation with the new architects of Web 2.0.

The company is launching PhizzPop.com on April 30. The site will serve as a place where companies that build Web 2.0-enabled software can network, exchange ideas, learn about events, browse job postings and even learn a thing or two.

Of course, Microsoft will invite people to show off their stuff, but not in a Channel 9 or 10.Net kind of way. Consider it more like a forum or online conversation where you can show off (or find out who is a show off).

As one booth rep explained, "This is an engagement with the Web 2.0 community... We want to talk to these people (motions to attendees at the Web 2.0 Expo show floor) and we figure this would be a good way to do it."

Right now, the address is a placeholder with a chance to trade your e-mail address for a "stay tuned." The booth rep said they were hoping to launch PhizzPop by the time Web 2.0 ran, but the project ran into some problems.

And speaking of stay tuned, Microsoft's booth reps were letting out hints about the upcoming Mix '07 show. First off, it will include some PhizzPop chatter. Secondly, it could implement some feedback from the Web 2.0 show... and we're talking more than just Silverlight.

That's something to stay tuned for.
