According to researcher IDC, Verizon jumped back to the number one position in the U.S., edging out AT&T with 56.8 million subscribers compared with AT&T's 56.3 million. Verizon also held the top spot for wireless data revenue and data percentage of average revenue per user.Verizon Wireless is once again the top U.S. carrier in terms of direct retail subscribers. At the time, the deal catapulted Cingular ahead of Verizon Wireless to make it the U.S. market leader. And now, true to their word, Verizon Wireless is back at number one, even if by the slimmest of margins.
