How Long Will You Wait For Silverlight?
Microsoft's been coy about when version 1.1 of its Silverlight Web technology, which has been labeled an Adobe Flash-killer, will come out. But Microsoft architect evangelist Alexander Strauss may have leaked a bit of news in his blog.
Microsoft's been coy about when version 1.1 of its Silverlight Web technology, which has been labeled an Adobe Flash-killer, will come out. But Microsoft architect evangelist Alexander Strauss may have leaked a bit of news in his blog.In a chart he put up on his blog comparing Silverlight version 1.0 to version 1.1, which adds support for a bunch of new programming languages, among other things, there's a row labeled "Possible (not final) Release Timeframe." Within that, Silverlight 1.1 is labeled as coming out in the Spring of 2008.
I may be rushing things, but even though that's only 9 months or so after the anticipated version 1.0 release, it's actually a bit of a longer timeframe than I had expected. I say that considering the level of detail available on Silverlight 1.1, the powerful demonstrations shown off at Mix that take advantage of Silverlight 1.1's support for new languages and data linkages, and all the comments I heard at Microsoft's Mix conference last week talking about how version 1.0 was okay, but 1.1 would be the stuff the cool kids use. Does absence make the heart grow fonder, or does it just make Adobe seem further ahead?
