Syncing The Palm Treo With The Mac: Like Hitting Your Thumb With A Hammer, But Without The Fun Parts

Posted by Mitch Wagner, Jun 14, 2007 10:29 AM

A couple of days back, I was assigned a new PowerBook notebook from my company's IT department. Moving data, apps, and settings to my new machine has been pretty simple, except for one thing: I can't get the bloody Treo to sync with the Mac.

I'm using a Palm Treo 650. It runs the Palm OS, it's not one of the newer Windows machines. The Treo keeps crashing and restarting as it tries to sync the calendar with the Mac. Googling the problem isn't turning up much help. I had similar problems in February when I tried to sync the Treo with my then-new iMac.

I eventually got sync working using software called the Missing Sync. I can't find any information on transferring my Missing Sync license to the PowerBook. I e-mailed them two days ago and haven't gotten a response.

Based on my experience, Mark/Space has a lousy licensing plan and disappointing customer service. It doesn't have a try-before-you-buy policy for its downloadable software, which is unheard of here in the 21st century.

I should note that the last time I complained about Missing Sync, one of the marketing executives contacted me personally to offer help. He seems like a good guy, but I'm certain that regular customers, who don't work for the world's leading IT publication, aren't getting that level of service.

Anybody got a solution to this problem?
