Workday Lands 26,000-Employee Deal For On-Demand ERP

Posted by Chris Murphy, Sep 18, 2007 08:14 PM

Think ERP-by-subscription's only for little companies? Workday has signed the 26,000-employee Chiquita Brands to use its on-demand human resources apps, Workday president and co-founder Aneel Bhusri said at the InformationWeek 500 conference this week.

It's the biggest customer so far for the startup Workday, which is largely staffed by ex-PeopleSoft employees, including co-founder Dave Duffield, who founded PeopleSoft.

This is a big week for on-demand software . One of the knocks -- myths -- about software-as-a-service is it's only a fit for small businesses, and that big companies will move up to on-premise apps. Chiquita will put that idea to the test.
