Last CIO Standing, Memphis Edition: Joke #2

Since it's my obligation to pass on every CIO joke that I hear, I must report one from SIMposium 2007 here in Memphis. It was told by a (former) CIO, to a room full of CIOs, which just goes to show that CIOs can, too, laugh at themselves, despite what anybody says.

John Carrow, senior VP of global outsourcing and infrastructure services at Unisys, who was previously the Blue Bell, Pa., vendor's CIO for 10 years, and before that the CIO of the city of Philadelphia, told this joke to warm up the Society for Information Management crowd at the beginning of his keynote presentation:

A CIO was walking on the beach in Atlantic City when he came across a bottle. When he rubbed the bottle, a genie appeared. The genie was so grateful for being freed from the bottle that he said he would grant the CIO one wish. The CIO thought about it for a moment, then said: "I've always wanted to go to Bermuda. What I really wish is that you would build me a superhighway from Atlantic City to Bermuda, so I could drive there easily." The genie got irate, saying, "What kind of idea is that? Do you know how hard that would be, how much concrete it would take? To say nothing of the environmental impact." So the CIO said he would think of another wish. "OK, then, what I want is this," he said. "Not only will all my future deliveries be on time and on budget, but all my customers will be satisfied." The genie thought for a moment, then said: "So how many lanes did you want in that superhighway?"
