Apple Drops 1.1.2 iPhone Firmware Update. Hackers Beat It Just Hours Later
Erica Sadun exclaimed giddily in a post on The Unofficial Apple Weblog at 1:30 this morning: They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And here is the first picture from a jailbroken 1.1.2 iPod touch, courtesy of hacker planetbeing. Congratulations to all the iPhone/iPod team, including Pumpkin, Edgan, Dinopio, Drudge, Kroo, and all the rest. Details will be forthcoming as the method gets debugged and safety-features put in-place. Granted, this is only the iPod Touch, and not the iPhone. But you can assume unlocking the iPhone--again--isn't far behind, thanks to the diligent work of the iPhone Dev Team. According to other blogs on the Interwebs, the 1.1.2 firmware update does indeed patch the TIFF exploit that had been used to unlock 1.1.1 phones. Once users update to 1.1.2, they will be unable to use the jailbreakme.com Web site to re-unlock their iPhones. At this point, if you're a serial iPhone unlocker, you may as well hold off updating to the latest firmware until TUAW announces a new jailbreak. Chances are you won't be waiting long. « Sprint, Clearwire Fail To Forge WiMax Partnership, Nix Plans | Main | If You Build It, They Will Hack It » |
