Join Us Tuesday Afternoon For InformationWeek Live

Posted by Mitch Wagner, Feb 12, 2008 12:05 AM

InformationWeek Live this week is all about location, location, location. GPS-enabled mobile devices can give users the information they need when and where they need it. We'll talk with three experts on location-based services about where this technology is today and where it's going.

As described in this week's InformationWeek cover story, companies making use of location-based services include Wal-Mart, which sends location-customized messages to managers at 3,000 stores about incoming bad weather that could affect business -- for example, dangerous high winds or a snowstorm that could start a run on rock salt. Papa John's customers in Alabama can track pizza delivery street by street using TrackMyPizza.com. And Sprint subscribers in California's Contra Costa County will soon get emergency alerts, such as wildfire warnings, but only if they're in at-risk areas.

What does the future look like for this exciting technology? Find out on InformationWeek Live.

WHO: I'm your host, and I'll be joined by Marianne Kolbasuk McGee, senior writer for InformationWeek, and Stephen Wellman, editor & analyst of business mobility, along with David Neel, CEO of Trackmypizza.com.

WHEN: 3 p.m. Eastern/noon Pacific today, Tuesday, Feb. 12.

HOW: You can listen on Web streaming audio, on the phone, or in Second Life.

On the Web: Visit the InformationWeek Live page on TalkShoe. Just click on this badge during showtime:

On the phone: Dial (724) 444-7444 Call ID: 12478 to hear live audio of the event. Even if you choose to phone in, you'll get more from the experience if you visit the Web site, too, where you can participate in text chat with me, our guests, and other callers.

In Second Life: We'll stream the audio in to the CMP Amphitheater (SLURL). I'll be logged in to TalkShoe and at the amphitheater in Second Life simultaneously.

And if you can't make it to the live event, you'll be able to download a podcast of the episode later from TalkShoe.
