Google Posts Videos To Demonstrate Its Mobile Services
Chris Nguyen and Tom Dimopoulos, mobile product specialists from the Google mobile team, posted the video in a blog post. Here is what they say: If you've ever wondered how to get the most out of Maps for mobile, then this post is for you. These first two videos highlight the My Location and Traffic view features of Maps for mobile. Stuck in terra incognita? Check out the My Location video to learn how you can quickly find yourself on the map. Once you know your approximate location, you can also figure out whether there's traffic nearby using the Traffic feature. We'll even show you exactly what the different traffic colors actually mean. In my experience, the accuracy of MyLocation varies greatly. At home, it pegs me to within about one-half mile from my house, even though I am sitting in five-bar wireless coverage (part of how it determines location). In NYC, I've gotten it to be as close as two blocks away. In other areas, it's been off by as much as a few miles, though that is within its margin of error, according to Google. Of course, if your phone has GPS, it's pretty darned accurate. Here is the video demo from the Google guys: I can't say Google's video offers all that much more than Over The Air did last November.
