Official BlackBerry 9000 Specs Leaked

Posted by Eric Zeman, Apr 30, 2008 09:45 AM

This is the real deal, folks. No speculation here. An enterprising informer found an internal RIM document that highlights all the details of the forthcoming BlackBerry 9000 smartphone. Take a peek for yourself.

Mad props to The Boy Genius and his army of informants. I don't know how he scored this document, but he did. It sheds light on nearly everything, and leaves almost nothing in the shadows. Here we go.

The BlackBerry 9000, which is similar in size and shape to the Curve, will run BlackBerry OS 4.6. It has reworked themes that are presumably going to be carrier dependent. The screens shots shown in the document display an active Wi-Fi Alliance logo, so we know that it will support Wi-Fi. There also are icons indicating 3G capabilities as well as standard EDGE data.

The home screen looks to be completely revised and offers a Microsoft Windows Mobile "Today" type screen. It shows a quick view of your e-mail messages, calendar appointments, and missed calls. It also supports tons of languages, including Chinese and Japanese.

The browser is a full HTML browser, and will support Ajax, CSS 2.1, JavaScript 1.5, and DOM L2. This is a nice change up from the existing WAP browser found on today's BlackBerrys.

It will come with a camera, and the ability to record video. The gallery application has been completely reworked and looks much more modern than the existing gallery app. The music player also has been revised and looks more capable, with a better user interface.

The document is dated April 8, just a few weeks ago. Whether or not these details are absolutely final isn't known, but we now know a lot more about the BlackBerry 9000 than we did yesterday.

I invite you to follow the links I embedded to The Boy Genius site and look at all the documents for yourself.
