The Weekly Watch On Content Management

Posted by George Dearing, May 19, 2008 11:10 AM

Some of the nuggets rising to the top this week include the continual shift to social computing, international customer wins, enterprise search, and a CEO announcement.

We talked to Alfresco CTO John Newton last week prior to announcing its intentions to claim more in the social computing land grab taking place. We wrote about the influence of social software a while back, noting that most, if not all, traditional ECM software companies are clearly scrambling to satisfy customers anxious to start their social computing efforts. Alfresco sent along some recently tinted Web 2.0 sites with the news. Not a bad start.

•           Online Sports:  http://www.eafootball.com

•           Online Telephony Services:  http://labs.swisscom-mobile.ch

There's also lots of news coming out of the Big Red Machine. No, not the '75 Cincinnati Reds, but Oracle.
Apparently prompted by our recent enterprise search post, Oracle told us how it's helping one of its customers improve employee information access with enterprise search.

Edens & Avant, who builds and develops community-oriented shopping areas in the eastern United States, is using Oracle Secure Enterprise Search and other infrastructure to launch an enterprise portal that it hopes will improve productivity and internal collaboration.

We also got a note from Day Software's PR firm this week on the continued momentum of the content infrastructure firm. It just announced a new CEO as well as record first-quarter profits.

Financial results for the company's first quarter totaled CHF 7.4 million, achieving a 15% growth in total revenue. CEO Erik Hansen brings more than 30 years of experience at companies including Apple, Interwoven, Siemens, and Tibco. His stints at Interwoven and Tibco are something that maps well to Day's reputation and road map. Tibco -- now there's a name I hadn't heard in a while.

Lastly, the multilingual Web site trend continues with FatWire Software telling InformationWeek of its recent win with Santalucia. A company spokesperson for the Spanish insurance company told us it chose FatWire's Content Server for its ease of use and multilingual capabilities.

Send us your suggestions.
